Most SMEs know they should protect their computers and back up their data. What often holds them back is cost. The good news is that the EDGE grant for cybersecurity can help Singapore SMEs fund pre-approved endpoint security and backup solutions, with up to 50% support for eligible businesses.
EDGE replaced the Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG) on 30 September 2026. This guide explains how the new grant works for cybersecurity, how much support you can expect, who qualifies and how to apply without putting your grant at risk.
Grant details in this article are based on Enterprise Singapore’s published EDGE FAQ as at October 2026. Grant terms can change, so always confirm the latest requirements on the official Enterprise Singapore and Business Grants Portal pages before you apply.
Why Cybersecurity Is a Business Continuity Issue for SMEs
For a small business, a cyber incident is rarely just an IT problem. When ransomware locks your files or a staff laptop is compromised, invoicing stops, customer records become unavailable and your team cannot work.
Many incidents also start with human behaviour: a convincing phishing email, a malicious link or a reused password. That is why practical protection for SMEs usually comes down to two things:
- Stopping threats on the devices your staff use every day, and
- Being able to recover your data if something still goes wrong.
Endpoint security and backup cover exactly those two needs, and both can be supported under EDGE when you choose a pre-approved solution.
What Is the EDGE Grant?
EDGE is Enterprise Singapore’s single grant for businesses starting new projects to improve efficiency, digitalise, innovate or expand overseas. It brings together three earlier schemes:
- Productivity Solutions Grant (PSG), which funded pre-approved digital solutions such as cybersecurity software
- Enterprise Development Grant (EDG)
- Market Readiness Assistance (MRA)
PSG applications submitted before 30 September 2026 continue under the old rules. New applications now go through EDGE on the Business Grants Portal (BGP), where you apply for the specific activity that matches your project. Cybersecurity solutions fall under the Automation & Digitalisation area.
Does the EDGE Grant Cover Cybersecurity?
Yes. Pre-approved cybersecurity solutions are supported as single-function digital solutions under EDGE. You can browse vendors and packages on IMDA’s SMEs Go Digital platform, which also has a package builder for adjusting items such as the number of users, implementation and training.
For most SMEs, the two most useful types of cybersecurity solution are endpoint security and backup.
Endpoint Security
Endpoint security protects the laptops, desktops and servers your business runs on. A modern endpoint solution goes well beyond traditional antivirus. For example, Acronis Endpoint Security includes:
- Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR)
- Real-time anti-malware protection
- Ransomware protection
- URL filtering to block malicious websites
- Vulnerability assessment
- Behavioural analysis to spot suspicious activity
Backup and Recovery
Backup is your safety net when prevention fails. If files are encrypted by ransomware, deleted by mistake or lost through hardware failure, a good backup lets you restore them and keep the business running.
Acronis Backup, for example, encrypts your data before it leaves your computer, lets you schedule backups to suit your business and allows you to restore files when you need them.
Why You Need Both
Endpoint security reduces the chance of an attack succeeding. Backup reduces the damage if one does. Relying on only one leaves an obvious gap: protection without backup means a single incident can still cost you your data, while backup without protection means you may be restoring files again and again.
How Much EDGE Support Can You Get for Cybersecurity?
Support Levels
For Automation & Digitalisation activities, Enterprise Singapore provides:
- Up to 50% of qualifying costs for SMEs
- Up to 30% of qualifying costs for non-SMEs
You may see “up to 70%” quoted for EDGE. That higher rate applies to internationalisation and sustainability activities, not to cybersecurity solutions.
The S$30,000 Digital Solutions Cap
Each company has an annual EDGE cap of S$100,000 across all activities. Within that, up to S$30,000 can be used on single-function digital solutions, integrated enterprise systems and pre-scoped equipment. The cap runs from 1 April to 31 March the following year.
Enterprise Singapore also states that selected single-function digital solutions and integrated enterprise systems are limited to one application per UEN. If you are planning more than one digital project this year, such as cybersecurity and new accounting software, check with Enterprise Singapore or your vendor how this limit applies before you submit.
A Simple Example
Here is an illustration only, using round numbers. Your actual qualifying cost depends on the approved package.
- Endpoint security and backup package for your team: S$6,000 qualifying cost
- EDGE support for an eligible SME at 50%: S$3,000
- Your net cost after a successful claim: S$3,000
EDGE is paid on a reimbursement basis, so your business pays the vendor in full first and then submits a claim after completing the project.
Who Is Eligible for EDGE Cybersecurity Support?
To apply for EDGE, your business must:
- Be a business entity registered in Singapore
- Have at least 30% Singaporean and/or Singapore PR ownership
- Use the solution for the applicant company itself, not for a subsidiary or related party
- Meet any other requirements of the specific activity
To receive the SME support level, your company should have a group annual sales turnover of not more than S$100 million, or a group employment size of no more than 200 workers. Non-profit organisations, societies and other non-business entities cannot apply.
How to Apply for the EDGE Grant for Cybersecurity
Step 1: Review Your Current Protection
List the devices and data you need to protect: staff laptops and desktops, servers, shared files and Microsoft 365 data. Note what protection and backup you already have, and where the gaps are.
Step 2: Choose a Pre-Approved Solution
Browse pre-approved cybersecurity solutions on SMEs Go Digital, or speak to a vendor whose packages are supported under EDGE. Make sure the package covers the number of users and devices you actually have.
Step 3: Get a Quotation, but Do Not Pay Yet
Request a formal quotation that matches the package you will apply for. Do not sign up, start installation or pay any deposit before you submit your application.
Step 4: Submit Your Application on the Business Grants Portal
Your own staff must submit the application, using an account with the Corppass role of BGP Preparer or BGP Acceptor. Vendors and other third parties are not allowed to submit applications or claims on your behalf.
Step 5: Deploy, Pay and Submit Your Claim
After approval, deploy the solution, pay the vendor in full and keep proof of the deliverables, such as licence numbers, user IDs or user email addresses. EDGE accepts a single, final claim. Enterprise Singapore has indicated that claims for single-function digital solutions can be submitted from 1 December 2026.
Common Mistakes That Can Cost You the Grant
- Installing or paying before you apply. Any work, payment or deposit before submission makes the application retrospective, and it will not be supported.
- Letting the vendor submit for you. Applications, change requests and claims must come from your company’s own authorised users.
- Buying for the wrong number of users. Changing the vendor after approval is not allowed, so get the scope right first.
- Using a related company as the vendor. Vendors must not be connected to the applicant, its related companies, directors or common shareholders.
- Missing the claim due date. Only one claim extension is allowed, and it must be requested before the deadline.
- Assuming backup alone is enough. A grant makes it easier to cover both protection and recovery, so do not leave one of them out.
What to Look for in an EDGE-Supported Cybersecurity Solution
A grant lowers the cost, but the solution still has to fit how your business works. When comparing options, check:
- Protection and backup together. One console for both makes it easier to see whether everything is protected.
- Ransomware protection. Look for features that detect and stop ransomware, not just known viruses.
- Encrypted backups. Your data should be encrypted before it leaves your devices.
- Tested recovery. A backup is only useful if you can actually restore from it. Ask how restores are tested.
- Monitoring and support. Someone should be watching alerts and failed backups, not just installing software. See our guide on how SMEs should choose cybersecurity solutions.
- Cost after the grant period. Ask about renewal or subscription fees after the first year.

EDGE Grant for Cybersecurity: Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still use PSG for cybersecurity?
No new PSG applications are accepted from 30 September 2026. Applications submitted before that date continue under PSG rules. New applications for cybersecurity solutions now go through EDGE.
How much does the EDGE grant cover for cybersecurity?
Up to 50% of qualifying costs for SMEs and up to 30% for non-SMEs, within an annual S$30,000 cap for digital solutions, integrated enterprise systems and pre-scoped equipment.
Does EDGE cover backup as well as antivirus?
EDGE supports pre-approved single-function digital solutions, which can include endpoint security and backup. Check that the specific package you choose is supported before you apply.
Can I install the software first and claim later?
No. If you start work or pay any deposit before submitting your application, it is treated as retrospective and will not be supported.
I received PSG before. Can I still apply for EDGE?
Yes. Past PSG, EDG or MRA support does not count towards your EDGE cap. However, EDGE is meant for new projects, so you should not seek support for a project that was already funded under PSG.
Where can I check the official rules?
Refer to Enterprise Singapore’s EDGE Grant FAQ and the activity pages on the Business Grants Portal. You can also book an appointment with an SME Centre for advice.
